006 Kristupas Sapiega’s Burial Monument
The monument, which in Soviet times was moved from the church to the stairway, is dedicated to Leonas Sapiega’s son Kristupas who died in 1631. A creation of Italian sculptors who were working in Vilnius, is noteworthy for the purity of style and skillful composition. The marble image of the young man shows the desire of 17th-century Lithuanian nobility to stress their Sarmatian origins.
